What Is the Research About?
The research is about the learning and well-being of children and young people with Down’s syndrome at school and college. The questionnaire will map their educational histories and experiences of children and young people with Down syndrome, aged 4 to 19 years, living in the UK.
The research will identify issues for change, successful educational strategies and approaches across all school placement types and will inform and contribute to best practice for educators.
What will taking part involve?
You will complete an online questionnaire which will ask you about your child’s educational history. It will include questions on the number and type of their placements (for example mainstream or special), and about your child’s current placement, what you like and what you would change. The questionnaire will take 20 to 30 minutes to complete, depending on how many placements your child has had.

Sharing the findings
We will share the findings of the research as widely as possible. We want as many families and schools as possible to know what other families and schools have found helpful. The research findings will be shared on the DSA website and in academic and professional journals.
Information about the researcher
Sarah Geiger is a Senior Educational Psychologist. She is Chair of the Barnet Leading Edge group for Children and Young People with Down’s syndrome, has written articles, is a charity trustee and was a member the United Kingdom All Party Parliamentary Group on Down’s syndrome and education.
