Ageing & Dementia

We celebrate the fact that people who have Down’s syndrome are now living far longer than ever before. Just as the rest of population experience changes as they grow older, so do adults who have Down’s syndrome. We now understand far more about some of the common issues encountered with increasing age.

We have two booklets to inform families and professionals supporting older people who have Down’s syndrome Getting Older and Down’s syndrome and Alzheimer’s Disease.

The Down’s Syndrome Association is able to facilitate training that focuses on strategies relevant to supporting people who have Down’s syndrome who are ageing. More information on this is available by emailing training@downs-syndrome.org.uk and on our website.

We also host a closed Facebook group for families and professionals who have an interest in Down’s syndrome and dementia – details available by emailing training@downs-syndrome.org.uk.
