Our recent work has focussed on two key pieces of legislation which received Royal Assent in spring 2014:
- The Children and Families Bill – DSA Response to House of Lords Second Reading on 2nd July 2013
- Children and Families Bill – DSA submission to the consultation on the new Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs (December 2013)
A key issue for us is the poor provision of information and support for families navigating both social care and education systems.
In addition to our own submissions to Parliament we have joined forces with other organisations to make amendments. We have worked with the Special Education Consortium (SEC) on the Children and Families Bill and the Care and Support Alliance (CSA) on the Care Bill.
The Children and Families Act will come into force in September 2014 bringing in changes to the legislative framework for special educational needs in England. We shall be issuing regular Education Policy updates to keep DSA members and other interested parties informed.
