Meet Hannah…the UK’s first qualified Zumba instructor with Down’s syndrome

Hello, my name is Hannah.

A young woman who has Down's syndrome in exercise gear poses for a photo

I’m 24 years old and I am a Zumba instructor.

I am also a badminton player at the Special Olympics and I have been a swimmer at the Special Olympics before.

I have always been very active and I didn’t cope well with shielding during the lockdown in the Covid-19 pandemic.

I always liked Zumba and I discovered Zumba on Zoom in the lockdown which changed my life.

I attended the live classes after coming out of shielding and my instructor Emma encouraged me to become an instructor myself. It was always my dream to become a fitness instructor!

In autumn 2021 I completed my Zumba instructor course and gained my licence.

Now I am living my dream giving regular classes both mainstream and for disabled groups.

Recently I was invited as a special guest at the Zumba academy for instructors in Manchester where I gave a speech and danced on stage with Beto, the founder of Zumba!

I have been on TV, Radio and appeared in the papers.

I also volunteer at Makants Greyhound rescue North West and at the Lowry Theatre in Salford.

My wish for the future is to carry on with my passion, to get my own flat and to find a boyfriend!

My motto is: never give up!
