Meet Amy…

We were delighted last week to be sent a wonderful picture of Amy and her partner Pete. Amy and her mum Gaynor, wanted to tell us a bit more about Amy’s life…

Amy will be 30 years old next month and she has already decided on what she would like to do to celebrate her birthday. It’s going to be all her favourite things; a hot tub, wine and nibbles with Pete. Amy absolutely adores Pete. They met through me many years ago. It has been a beautiful close friendship which is something I thought she would never have. Pete stayed over with his PA last New Year’s Eve they had an absolute ball together.

Amy has a love for music. She loves Abba, Elvis and in fact, just about anything that makes her happy. She is always the first person to hit a dance floor. She enjoys gardening, baking and crafting, particularly with paints. She also attends a theatre company in Wigan called More Than Words and is a popular member of the group. Being part of the group has given Amy more confidence in her abilities to speak up for herself and hold small conversations through drama and dance.

Amy also attends another group called Core which is very close to where we live in Orrell. They made contact with a local hairdresser, which has led to sessions taking place on a twice monthly basis, where Amy and others and are taught basic customer care, as well as hair washing and styling, which has increased her social and independence skills.

Amy has respite with her support worker Cathy in Wigan, and she is very much part of Cathy’s family. She was even a bridesmaid for Cathy’s daughter and son-in-law, who happens to be a famous England international rugby player. She has had many holidays with the family, which usually involve watching rugby which she absolutely loves. Amy has travelled to Spain and France. She enjoys life to the max, but this wouldn’t be possible without the support she receives.

Looking to the future, with the right support and care, Amy hopes to spend more time with Pete. They would love to go on more holidays together!
