Our Inclusion Adviser Catherine recently attended the Learning Disability England 2024 conference to present alongside other speakers about the Listen, Include, Respect guidelines. Here’s what she told us about the event.

I had a smooth journey to the Learning Disability England 2024 conference. I was heading there to talk about the Listen Include Respect guidelines. Taking the Tube to Waterloo, my nerves started to kick in. When I got there and when I went in, I said to myself ‘Wow this is what I am doing!’ It was great to see Robin (from Down Syndrome International). It was crazy to see him since I first started working with him 4 years ago.
“I would do it again because the way I was talking to people and for me I never stand up in public and being a public speaker felt like a great opportunity. It’s nice to stand up, work alongside someone and it was fun at the same time! “
From there it was nice to see others and talk to people over lunch. They were talking about their projects. The standout for me was the Leadership and Governance workshop. I would definitely do it again! It was amazing; it was so good! I would do it again because the way I was talking to people and for me I never stand up in public and being a public speaker felt like a great opportunity. It’s nice to stand up, work alongside someone and it was fun at the same time!

The Listen Include Respect guidelines help organisations understand what they need to do to make sure people with intellectual disabilities are included in their work.
