Last Sunday, after introducing ourselves and catching up on our news, we had a very special visitor to Down to Earth…
Lee Ryan, from the band Blue, who has recently appeared in Eastenders and the current series of Strictly Come Dancing, joined us for an exciting day!
After saying hello via Skype to our Having a Voice® friends in Devon, we had a discussion about people with Down’s syndrome on TV and in films and whether it would be good to see more actors with Down’s syndrome. We watched some clips of films and TV programmes with some very talented actors which we all enjoyed.
After the discussion, we all went into the beautiful Normansfield Theatre and got into groups. With Lee’s help, the groups worked on drama improvisations which were then acted out in front of the whole group. We had some scenes telling stories from a wedding, Eastenders, Strictly Come Dancing and The X-Factor. After the acting performances, some group members performed their own dances and, to the great excitement of the group, Lee joined in with this!
To end the day we had a group photo in the theatre. A special thanks to Lee who made this a happy day for all!
