WorkFit Roundup

The WorkFit team held their Online National Conference last month.

This was a really inspiring and interactive session bringing together candidates, employers, families, professionals and supporters to celebrate all the success over the past two years.

We talked about key achievements such as  presenting the keynote at the World Down Syndrome Congress 2021; meeting Chloe Smith, the Minister for Disabled People (which was featured on BBC News London); and the WorkFit Programme being featured on the One Show.

We heard directly from candidates and their employers about their experiences, and the positive impacts of employing someone who has Down’s syndrome. We are pleased to continue to raise awareness of the WorkFit programme and more widely, the benefits of employing someone who has Down’s syndrome, in order to access more opportunities for our candidates.

The WorkFit team have continued to grow partnerships with existing and new employers, getting more candidates into employment.

For example, we have expanded the number of sites that we work with at GXO Logistics and Dunelm, as well as creating a new partnership with a multinational hospitality chain.

We were delighted  to hear that WorkFit Candidate Tommy and the transport team at GXO Logistics, Goole, have won the GXO People Award for Diversity and Inclusion. This really illustrates the commitment GXO Logistics has to supporting employees who have Down’s syndrome, and highlights how well Tommy has fitted into the team.

Our employers and candidates were also incredibly supportive in selling and wearing ‘Lots of Socks’ in support of this year’s World Down’s Syndrome Day!
