In Memoriam – Dr Jennifer Dennis

We were deeply saddened to hear about the death of Dr Jennifer Dennis.

One of the early pioneers of healthcare for children with Down’s syndrome, Jenny set up a clinic at Park Hospital, Oxford. At that time, Jenny was the Medical Advisor to the Down’s Syndrome Association, working with us to develop health resources, writing articles for the Journal and answering questions from families.

Jenny went on with others to found the Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group, an organisation that works with health professionals who have an interest in Down’s syndrome. The DSMIG has since grown into the important organisation that it is today. The DSMIG is responsible for producing groundbreaking resources like the Evidence Based Surveillance Guidelines, the Parent Held Personal Child Health Record insert and the UK Growth Charts for Children with Down’s syndrome.

The DSA has continued to work very closely with the DSMIG and together we are still developing important resources for health professionals and advising families on all aspect of health in Down’s syndrome.  Jenny always went the extra mile to help families, giving her time and advice to them when they were at their most vulnerable.

Liz Marder, a current member of the DSMIG Steering Group, has written her own memories of Jennifer which you can read here.
