1 Rifles take on 24-hour New Year challenge for the DSA

Riflemen from 1 Rifles took on a gruelling 24-hour fitness challenge to bring in the new year, starting on New Year’s Eve and finishing on New Year’s Day, raising money for the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) and Care For Casualties.

To show respect for 1 Rifles’ fallen men, they made 14 workouts of the day (WOD), one for each of the fallen heroes, and completed one every hour on the hour to raise money for the charities.

We decided to raise money for the Down’s Syndrome Association as it is personal to me as my nephew has Down’s syndrome. Beau is one this month and has already been through so much. He’s spent most of his year of life in and out of hospital. He’s had to have an operation on his heart and seeing my brother and his partner and three other boys (Dean, Helena, Reece, Kitt-Franky and Jaxx) stressed, worried and helpless made me want to raise awareness and funds for a charity to help.

We also decided that we would raise money for the Rifles Care For Casualties as it has helped a couple of the lads.

Completing the challenge felt great, especially when we only set out to raise £1,000 to split between the two charities. As the event was being live streamed on Facebook, the money was going up to over £2500.
