New diabetes resources

We were very pleased to be asked for our input last year with the  production of some resources to help professionals ensure they are providing  a high quality service to people with diabetes and a learning disability.

Our information team contributed to the following resources:

Top tips for practitioners: Talking to people with a learning disability about Type 2 diabetes

How to….Make reasonable adjustments to diabetes care for adults with a learning disability

These, and many more diabetes and health related resources, are now available to download at the Diabetes UK website

There are two types of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Type I is more common in people with Down’s syndrome; Type II is frequently diagnosed, but not more common. Type II DM is often associated with obesity. In people without Down’s syndrome, it is now being found in children.  We hope these resources help to improve the healthcare of people with Down’s syndrome and diabetes.

We have recently reviewed, updated and enlarged our Health Series which includes a resource about diabetes. The ‘new look’ Health Series will be available to download from our website soon.
