There will be local elections in many parts of the country on Thursday 4 May.
These will be the first elections where people going to vote will be asked to show photo id.
Here are some types of photo id that will be accepted at polling stations:
- a passport
- a disabled bus pass
- a Blue Badge

If you don’t have any of these types of id, you can still apply for a special type of id called a Voter Authority Certificate.

The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2023.
