Going for Gold: Lloyd’s London Marathon Training

Lloyd recently got in touch to tell us about his preparations for the London Marathon.
Lloyd will be the youngest person with Down’s syndrome to attempt the race!
If you’ve ever wondered how to train for a marathon, here’s what he had to say when we interviewed him:

Lloyd, tell us about yourself.

I’m a 19, I have Downs Syndrome and go to a sixth form college. My hobbies are gymnastics, football, dancing, listening to music and playing with my super cars.

How did you get into running?

All my family like running, so I started doing Parkruns with them a few years ago. I’ve watched my mum do a few London Marathons and thought I’d like to have a go, now I’m over 18 I was able to apply for a place.

What are you doing to prepare for the Marathon?

I’m training 3 times a week, one long run on the weekend and 2 other runs in the week after college. I’m making playlists to listen to while I run and trying different energy gels and sweets while I’m training.

After the Marathon, what will your next challenge be?

The British Disability Gymnastics in September in Cardiff. I competed for the first time last year and won a gold medal, I’d like at least 2 medals next time.

What do you do to relax?

I listen to music, watch my iPad and play with my cars.

Who is your Guinness World Record holding hero?

Usain Bolt is amazing.

What advice would you give to someone who would like to take up running?

Join a Parkrun. You can go fast or slow or just walk. The people are really nice and we go for breakfast afterwards!

GOOD LUCK LLOYD!

LET US KNOW IF YOU MAKE IT INTO THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS
