Katie

Meet Katie. She has just released a poetry book in which the profits will be donated to the Down’s Syndrome Association. Thank you so much Katie!

My name is Katie. I am 26 years old. My hobbies are dancing, singing, my cat Willow, listening to music on my iPod and playing on my PS4 and iPad. But there is something more important to me than all of them, (except for Willow of course!) and that is composing my poems. Writing a poem is one way to express my feelings. If I feel down, sad, or even ill, I can put those feelings down into words. If poem writing has taught me anything, it’s about the here and now, and affecting other people. It could be in a sad or a positive way, it could remind you of worries you once had or something happy in your life.

So this is why I write poems, to hopefully, make you feel safe, even if you’re alone, and to keep you going, even if you feel afraid and want to hide. Out of the blue, my Uncle Pete got Mum to play detective and she took photos of my poems and sent them over to him. He put them together with some pictures and got a book of them printed for my birth day. I was amazed, and it inspired me to write even more poems! The book is called Willow and other poems. We are going to sell the book and raise money for the DSA. Here is me reading one of my poems from the book:

I hope my poems can shine a light through the darkest times. Love from Katie.
