Fabulous Shauna to Carry Queen’s Baton

We were thrilled to hear from Shauna and her parents after she was selected to carry the Queen’s baton in the Commonwealth baton relay. Shauna is a bit of a star. Whether it’s swimming, acting or within the world of work, she continually thrives. She told us more about herself and how it feels to carry the baton.

Hello, I’m Shauna. I am 29 and I work two mornings a week at The Reader in Liverpool.

I swim for Cheshire Penguins, and I swim at lots of galas. I swam for Special Olympics GB in Puerto Rico and Los Angeles where I won 6 medals.

I love acting and I do extra work on Hollyoaks and I was in the crime drama The Long Call. I am rehearsing for a Murder Mystery with my drama group.

I sometimes give talks to students at Liverpool Universities and talk to children in schools about my swimming. The children love to see all my medals.

I love my job, acting, going to the theatre and chatting with my friends. I also like spending time with my family.

I have also been selected to carry the Queen’s baton for the Commonwealth Relay. It makes me feel happy and excited.

Mum got an email saying I had been selected. I didn’t know that I had been nominated. A friend of our family asked mum if it was ok to nominate me! I can’t wait to get my kit!

I’m looking forward to the Commonwealth Games and especially the swimming.

Margaret and John, Shauna’s parents are also incredibly proud of Shauna’s amazing achievements:

‘We are extremely proud of Shauna she really deserves this honour, and we are very grateful to our friend Karen who thought she deserved it too.

Shauna always enters anything she does with energy and enthusiasm even practicing running with a pretend baton.

She is kind and caring and a great role model and she will do us proud of that there is no doubt.’
