Eloise Tells us About Living Independently.

Eloise juggles her job as a welcome host at Sky Garden with her presenting and social media aspirations, all while living independently and running her own home. She also has a long-term partner and a very busy social schedule.
We were lucky enough that she managed to squeeze in an interview with the Down’s Syndrome Association to tell us more.

Tell us about yourself and your sisters, Eloise
Hello my name is Eloise. I am 28 years old (just turned 28 in March!) and I am confident, sassy, fun loving and kind. My friends and family would describe me as the life and soul of the party. I live independently in South West London in a ground floor flat and I live underneath my good friend Julie. Two days a week I work in the city and the rest of my time is filled with spending time with friends and family, exercising and getting fresh air and enjoying my lovely home.

Eloise’s World of Work

What do you do at work?
I am a welcome host at 20 Fenchurch Street (also known as Sky Garden). This is a very important job because I am a lot of peoples’ first impression of the company so I am always smiley and enthusiastic. My day to day duties include scanning people in and performing admin tasks. I get to work with a wonderful team and love my job.

How do you travel to work?
I travel to work on the train. I get the train from my local station in SW London to London Bridge and walk from there to my work. Sometimes rush hour commute (especially at London Bridge) can be overwhelming. So when I got the job my sister made a request that my start times were off peak so that it was a calmer start to my work day. I practiced the route to work quite a few times with my sister and my support worker before I got the job to help me feel confident that I knew the way.

Me Time

You have a lot of hobbies don’t you, what are they?
Oh yes I definitely have a lot of hobbies. I am obsessed with self care and I love hair and beauty stuff so you can often find me doing a skincare routine or trying new looks. I am also on a journey at the moment with my health so have been spending time at the gym as well as practicing yoga at home with YouTube classes. Soap operas are my thing as I’m a bit of a TV addict! You can find me catching up on the latest Eastenders episode.

What do you like to do at the weekends?
I absolutely love socialising. I am a social butterfly and love meeting up with friends as well as making new ones. Going out for meals is my favourite, going to the shops or cinema and sometimes going clubbing too! I am a great dancer and can challenge anyone to a dance off in the club!

Do you enjoy cooking?
I absolutely love cooking and do a lot of cooking and try and eat a healthy balanced diet. I am a vegetarian so I make a lot of veggie dishes like curries and things like that. Sometimes my boyfriend and I like to make cheeky deserts to treat ourselves, things like chocolate brownie sundaes…life is about balance after all.

Alex and Eloise

How did you meet your boyfriend?
We met 6 years ago in April. My sister always giggles at how I know exactly how long Alex and I have been together. I think I know it down to the minute!
We met while out in the sunshine with friends on a day we went to Richmond Green. I was with a group of friends and there was another group there that shared friends with members of our youth club. When I first met him I thought “look at that guy he is GORGEOUS” and I got butterflies. We started out as friends but I could tell he was boyfriend material so after that we had some dates. We made things official on a date in Nando’s (our favourite spot) and we have been inseparable ever since!

What do you like to share with your followers on Instagram?
I really want to share that everyone is equal and everyone should be themselves. The world can be a bit judgemental sometimes and it is important to remember that we are all human beings and we need to treat each other with kindness no matter what.

Support Network

How does Katia support you in your everyday life?
All of my family supports me in everyday life, but my sisters help me with things that I find a bit tricky to do by myself. For example organising my ‘life admin’ my sister calls it. It is things like making sure my bills are getting paid correctly and accompanying me to appointments. Then keeping on top of daily chores, making sure I have food in the fridge and am keeping healthy and well. I am very independent but sometimes just need a little bit of support with certain tasks and they are great at helping me with that.
