My Journey to parenthood

Written by Anne-Marie, Jay’s mum

Simon and Anne-Marie live in the North East of Scotland and have been married for three years. They welcomed what they call their ‘miracle baby boy’ Jay in August 2020 after being given a one in 46 chance of a Down’s syndrome diagnosis following a prenatal blood test at 17 weeks.

Anne-Marie says that they decided not to proceed with an amniocentesis or harmony test as it was a miracle they were pregnant following fertility treatment. She said: ‘We didn’t even want to find out if we were having a boy or a girl, so why would Down’s syndrome be different, it wouldn’t change a thing… and it hasn’t!’

Jay is their beautiful baby boy. Anne-Marie said: ‘He is always smiling, loves his sleep, loves bedtime stories, loves music, loves dancing, loves roaring (our little lion cub), and loves to roll over. He brings so much happiness, joy, and utter pride to our lives, and brightens up everyone’s day with his contagious smile.’
