Meet Claire…and her sister Abigail

Hi, my full name is Claire Harris and this is my sister Abigail.

I have Down’s syndrome and Abigail wanted to make a film about people with Down’s syndrome in employment.

I’m a competitive swimmer with Sharks swimming club, and I play football for the Paddock Wood Panthers. This summer I graduated from the three-year performing arts course at Orpheus Centre College, and am currently rehearsing for The Jungle Book at The Oast Theatre and Dick Whittington with my local amateur dramatic society. I am also getting some work experience by helping backstage. My favourite musicians at the moment are The Fray, Nicole Scherzinger and Alexandra Burke.

Aside from my hobbies, I would also like to get a job. I’m interested in First Aid, catering and hospitality. This was why my sister wanted to make her film, possABILITY, to give people with Down’s syndrome a voice to let employers know that we are willing and able to have jobs.

I actually have a job interview next week. I’m going to wear a smart dress and will be practicing my interview questions. I do really hope I get it.

My pet hate is when people don’t realise my potential. I don’t know if they always realise how much I can do. This is why possABILITY is a brilliant opportunity for viewers to see people with Down’s syndrome in a job.

Good luck with the job interview Claire!
