Looking for work as an au pair

We’ve been contacted by our colleagues at the European Down Syndrome Association (EDSA) and asked to share Alžběta’s story with you.
Alžběta is looking for experience in the UK as an au pair. She has a younger brother who has Down’s syndrome. Here’s what she’s written:

My name is Alžběta Měkotová. I am 19 years old. I have a brother with Down syndrome and I would like to share my time with your family as an au pair.

I was born into a beautiful family as the second daughter. After two years my little brother Tony was born with Down syndrome, which was a challenge for our family.

But he grew up, with our support and care, into a teenager with hobbies, friends… I am a deeply proud and joyful sister.

Why I am writing all this information, is because I want to show that I will be a loyal, supportive, patient, caring and loving friend for your children and I want to help them achieve everything they want.

Here is a photo of my brother and myself:

A collage of two photos of Alžběta with her younger brother, who has Down's syndrome. One of the pictures is in the summer and includes a younger sister too. They are standing on a balcony and the sun is shining. In the second picture it is winter and Alžběta and her brother are wrapped up warm.

Now something about me.

I graduated from conservatory, majoring in classical music. Since graduation I have been going to language school.

In my spare time I am a Girl Scout leader, I do theatre, sing (of course) and play piano and flute. I work as a teacher in kindergarten and as a nanny in a family with twins. I just love children.

Therefore I would like to find a family with a child or baby who has Down syndrome in your country, whom I could help as an au pair from September 2023 and stay for year.

My family is part of the Czech community of people with Down syndrome. We are members of the Czech association named DownSyndrom CZ.

At summer camps I do every year some programs for them, and at meetings during the year too, so I have a lot of experience with children who have Down syndrome.

My English level is B1 and I would really like to improve it. If possible I would like to take some singing lessons. My goal is to improve my English, work with kids with Down syndrome and to gain new experiences and adventures. Besides that, I want to achieve something on my own.

I am looking forward to getting news from families from your country.
