Lily’s 21k step challenge

We were thrilled to hear from Hilary earlier this week. She wanted to tell us about her daughter, Lily’s, #Challenge21…

My daughter Lily Swift has been doing the 21K Steps Challenge every day this week and we have taken photos each day – her fundraising total so far is up to £453 (more with Gift Aid!) and more to come.

Also, our Tesco delivery driver (who Lily likes chatting to at the doorstep) kindly offered to sponsor her. He asked all his dot com team at his branch of Tesco Extra to support her and many have chipped in (delivery drivers and click & collect team!) They also brought a beautiful bunch of flowers for Lily donated by the store, a card signed by all those who donated, and a hi-vis jacket for Lily to keep (so she can wear it when they deliver our food order on Saturday morning!!) We were overwhelmed – just so kind, amazing people.

I’ve been amazed at how many people we have met on our daily walks have sponsored her – people we’ve not seen for ages or who don’t really know us well!

We asked Lily some questions about her fundraising challenge:

What made you want to do the 21k steps challenge?

Its because I love having Down’s syndrome and being able to do the challenge and raise money

How does it feel to have so many people support you on your fundraising challenge?

It feels amazing and loads of my family and friends love supporting me through this challenge and they are proud of me.

How did it feel to receive the donations and flowers from your local Tesco Delivery Man?

It was a big surprise that they raised a lot of money and gave me lovely flowers a card and my very own high vis jacket which I will wear tomorrow morning when I help mum unpack our food order.

Do you have any advice for anyone else who would like to take on a fundraising challenge?

My advice would be to go for it and raise a lot of money and I loved doing this challenge and have fun.

What an inspiring #Connect story! Thank you so much for fundraising for us Lily and to everyone who has supported your #Challenge21
