Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023

On Monday we were delighted to join the Welsh First Minister, Mark Drakeford, at the Senedd to wish the very best of luck to six athletes from across Wales who have been selected to be part of the Great Britain Team at the Special Olympics World Games 2023.

Amongst the dedicated and talented athletes are Michael Beynon from Wrexham who will compete in Bocca and Bleddyn Gibbs from Pembrokeshire who will compete in power lifting.

A group of athletes with learning disabilities pose outside the Senedd building in Cardiff in advance of competing in the Berlin Special Olympics World Games June 2023.

The First Minister wished the athletes and coaches ‘every success’ at the event which is taking place in Berlin from 17 to 26 June 2023.

More than 7000 competitors with intellectual disabilities (learning disabilities) will compete in the Special Olympics World Games and the BBC will be running coverage of the games.

We look forward to the increased interest and understanding that this will bring to the importance of the participation of people who have learning disabilities in physical activity and sport.

Everyone at the DSA sends the very best of luck to all the athletes that are taking part at the Games.

We are looking forward to watching you competing!
