Portsmouth Tennis Festival 2018

Summer can bring many happy changes: longer evenings, lots of sunshine and warmer weather. For the DSActive team, summer means that the tennis season is well underway!

Recently, the DSActive team paid a visit to Portsmouth to run a DSActive tennis festival with John and his excellent team at Portsmouth Tennis Centre.

The festival started with a fun warm up and the players got to practice some of their tennis skills whilst also participating in some games. Once everyone was warmed up and ready to
start playing, the 11 players were split into 4 groups and they each got to work with a different coach on a specific skill. The players practised forehand, backhand, volleying and serving. There were some fantastic skills on show and the coaches adapted the drills brilliantly to suit the experienced players and the players who had never picked up a racket before.

To finish the day, everyone got to play a series of games devised by head coach John. Just before the festival ended, everyone received a medal from the DSActive team and some freebies from Portsmouth Tennis Centre.

A member of the DSActive team commented “It was a fantastic day, I was really impressed by the standard of the tennis on display, especially from those who had never picked up a racquet before! A huge thank you to John and his team for running the day and thank you to Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association for their support.
