Mum Wendy Harris-Amo has spent years working on a product inspired by her late daughter Phoebe. On November 2nd 2021, Wendy will launch Trolley Buggy Connectors, with some profits going to the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA).
Here’s Wendy’s story..
In 2009 I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Phoebe. Phoebe had Down’s syndrome and had a lot of health issues, she had to have two operations during her short life.
I spent all my time caring for her, which was the most loving and rewarding thing of all as she was a very loving and happy baby.
We were not able get out much and when we did, we would go out food shopping. This was when I came across my problem, trying to manage both a pram and a shopping trolley at the same time. Phoebe could not sit up properly and was unable to sit in a trolley seat and needed to stay in her pram. As you know, going shopping with a pram and trolley on your own is extremely difficult to manage so at that time, I took my older daughter with me to help me to go shopping with Phoebe. This was becoming a major problem for me.
My life was changed forever on the 24 of September 2010, when Phoebe sadly passed away at only 13 months old. It was extremely hard for me, coping with her loss, especially as no one would talk about her like she ever existed. I channelled my grief into solving the problem, with a trolley and pram, and to make a legacy for Phoebe’s memory to live on.
I started to thinking of a way to be able to push a trolley with a pram/buggy attached, and I came up with a product that does just that – Trolley Buggy Connectors Phoebe’s Legacy.
The Buggy Connectors are a lightweight universal connecting device which allow you to attach your pram/buggy to a shopping trolley and allows you to push both together as one. As part of Phoebe’s legacy I wanted to help support some charities. One being the Down’s Syndrome Association, which was chosen to show how proud and honoured I was to have had Phoebe in my life. The Down’s syndrome Association has been very kind and supportive to me over the years, and are now kindly helping me with my launch, which I very much appreciate.
Phoebe’s legacy will help other children who have Down’s syndrome and learning disabilities to live full and rewarding lives.
