DSA Patron David Flatman cooks up storm in charity event

The DSA really enjoyed watching the special Cookalong.tv event with former England rugby international, sports commentator and DSA Patron David ‘Flats’ Flatman at the weekend. As David showed winners of the Vodafone VeryMe Rewards competition how to cook up a storm on the BBQ, he reminded all those that the event also had a good cause.

“My brother has Down’s syndrome and he has the most amazing life, he’s a wicked bloke and the reason he has such an amazing life is because people raise money for him and people like him.”

Hosted by Cookalong.tv, David guided three rugby fans, all of whom had won the opportunity to take part, through delicious looking steak meal kits as they cooked along at home. In true British fashion, the rain fell at times as David continued to cook, umbrella in hand. The group had a chance to talk about the line-up for the British and Irish Lions 2021 Tour of South Africa and they all finished in time for the British and Irish Lions match against the Sigma Lions.

The livestream was sponsored by Vodafone and Hawksmoor, a small group of steak restaurants that first started in London, with Vodafone making a donation to the DSA.

“We are incredibly grateful to David for nominating us as his chosen charity. We really enjoyed watching the event which although had a serious cause, was lots of fun. David really engaged with the other cooks and the finished results looked incredible.” Down’s Syndrome Association

“The team at Cookalong TV were really impressed with Flats and his understanding of food, cooking and how to prepare steaks. A pro from start to finish, and even the rain didn’t stop him as he took on the Cookalong challenge! The winners thoroughly enjoyed it, and the food was outstanding. A special thanks to our partners, Vodafone, for making this happen and we all hugely appreciate their generosity and kind donation to DSA. This charity is close to Flats’ heart, and also myself as a good friend’s son was born with Down’s syndrome, and it’s just wonderful that we can support the brilliant work the DSA do.” Rick Kumar, Co-Founder and MD, Cookalong TV

The DSA would like to thank Cookalong.tv and Vodafone VeryMe Rewards for their support, as well as Hawksmoor, Sublime and all other contributors for their delicious ingredients.
