Vaccines for Young People who have Down’s syndrome aged 16-18

As many of you will know, adults who have Down’s syndrome aged 18 and over are included on the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable list for COVID-19 and are currently eligible for priority vaccination (they are at priority group 4). As we move down the priority list later this month, young people who have Down’s syndrome aged 16-18 will be included at priority 6.

We have received a number of calls from families asking, what vaccine is licensed for people below the age of 18 and the information we have tells us that (of the vaccines currently available) this is Pfizer  one https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-pfizer-biontech-vaccine-for-covid-19/information-for-uk-recipients-on-pfizerbiontech-covid-19-vaccine

The AstraZeneca (Oxford) vaccine is licenced for people over the age 18 only https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca/information-for-uk-recipients-on-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca

The NHS teams responsible for calling people for vaccine will be aware of this, but we are sharing this here for clarification.
