Dylan has a great sporty experience at school

By Dylan’s mother, Victoria

Dylan had a great time at our local secondary school. We were very lucky have a school with a very inclusive head teacher and very involved, proactive and forward thinking ALNCo; this attitude filtered down through all the staff in the school.

Some of the children knew Dylan from primary school but he soon made lots of new friends and naturally fell-in with the ’sporty lads’ group.

In Year 8 Dylan won the headteacher’s award and won many swimming awards over the years. For Dylan, the highlight of secondary school was the Year 10 sports trip to Spain for a week. From leaving home at 3am, to playing football, rugby, climbing and going to the beach with his friends it was a fabulous experience. When I first approached school to ask if the trip would be accessible for Dylan, the response was – if he wants to come, it will be.

Dylan and his girlfriend (at the time) were voted by the year group to be Prom King and Queen at the end of Year 11; he still has his crown.

Once he moved into Sixth form the focus was very much on regular work experience outside of school and gaining practical skills to help students onto their next steps in life.

A collage of several photos of Dylan. One shows him sitting on a pub table with a rucksack and walking boots. In the second he's standing on the tarmac in front of an airplane. In the third he's posing with a Prom King sash and crown.
