Training and Support in Wales

The Wales Office of the Down’s  Syndrome Association works closely with colleagues in our training team to provide a range of training opportunities and conferences for family carers and the professionals who support them.

Training courses can be designed to meet the needs of anyone working with a child or adult with Down’s syndrome in any education, health, social care or community setting.

Bespoke training courses can be designed for a range of audiences. These typically include:

  • Early Years settings
  • primary and secondary schools
  • colleges
  • maternity units
  • social services teams
  • leisure providers
  • community groups (like scouts or sports clubs)
  • employers who have  a person with Down’s syndrome working with them
  • in fact, anywhere where an individual with Down’s syndrome may attend.

Some courses are provided by our Wales staff team and others will involve colleagues working in our training team and those DSA staff who lead on specific projects such as our assessment services, Tell It Right training and WorkFit training.

From time to time we also facilitate conferences on relevant topics including education and health issues. These are usually organised in conjunction with one of our local support groups across Wales, but we would be
happy to discuss conference possibilities with any interested party e.g. a local authority, health board or other voluntary sector partner.

If you are interested in finding out more about training opportunities and are based anywhere in Wales, please contact our Wales Manager, Julian Hallett, to discuss your training needs in more detail on 0333 1212 300/ 07834 987 421 or email
