The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) and Down Syndrome International (DSi) were delighted to host the second Damon Hill Golf Classic on Thursday 28 September.
12 teams of golfers, including Damon Hill OBE, enjoyed beautiful autumn sunshine and the glorious surroundings of East Devon Golf Club, Budleigh Salterton, for a full round of golf and friendly competitions during the day followed by an intimate supper, auction and prize draw in the evening, compèred by John Wood. Graham Barton was our guest auctioneer.
We were also thrilled to be able to welcome Michael Caines MBE, one of the event sponsors (alongside Lympstone Manor and Ted Baker) to the evening event. Earlier in the day, he and Scott Andrews, General Manager at Lympstone Manor, had presented Damon with a cheque for £15,000. The money had been raised through auctions, raffles and generous donations at a special evening at Lympstone Manor to celebrate 40 years of Williams Racing.
Guests at the Golf Classic were also able to view a piece of Formula One history in the stunning shape of Damon’s 1996 World Championship winning Williams Racing car (1996 FW18, chassis no. 04). We are very grateful for Williams Racing for their support.
We are also very grateful to the local companies who sponsored holes for the Golf Classic. These include The Elizabethan Inn, Premier Power Products, The Exeter, GreenThumb (Honiton), Stuart Marsh Shoes and Generator Cowork Hub.
We’d like to say a big thank you to all our guests who made it such a special occasion. All the money raised will be shared between the two charities.
