From our Helpline team… November 2017

Our Information and Training team answer the DSA’s Helpline, taking calls on everything from benefits advice, to education queries, to behavioural support, to answering questions about social care. Something that often comes up for parents of children and young people is the question: how do I find local services?’

The ‘Local Offer’ is a directory that local authorities (councils) have to publish, which details all the services available in that area for disabled children and young people up to the age of 25.

To find yours, type your postcode and the words ‘local offer’ into an internet search engine.

This should include information about education support, leisure activities, social care, health, and transition to adulthood.

You can also get in touch with one of our affiliated parent support groups, members of which will have local knowledge that you might find helpful. You can find your nearest support group by using our map function or by giving us a call on 0333 1212 300.
