Joe is one of our very talented WorkFit candidates and one of our DSActive athletes! He has recently had a claim to fame as he was one of that stars of Channel 4’s documentary ‘Home Free’ with his girlfriend, Anna.
What is Home Free? Home Free follows a group of young people with learning disabilities who are leaving home for the first time, moving into supported living apartments that offer the chance of independent living
He recently wrote a blog for us talking about his life including, his relationship, his work and his hobbies…
Hi, my name is Joe, I am 27 years old. I still live with my mum and dad but I want to live with my girlfriend. We met at Derwen College 5 and a half years ago. We see each other a few times a week.
I was in a T.V. programme called ‘Home Free’ with my girlfriend, it was good fun. We stayed in a flat 2 nights a week to see how we got on. It was brilliant. We can’t use the flat now.
Without assisted living and the incredible dedication of support workers, none of this would be possible ❤️#HomeFree pic.twitter.com/aU8Jo45B04

I play football every week with Everton FC, we all have Down’s syndrome. I go to a swimming club every Thursday with my girlfriend. I support Liverpool. I love watching them at Anfield.
I have a job in a restaurant two days a week. I collect ice for the bar, pull pints, clear tables and serve customers. One day a week I work at a community garden. I help chop logs, mow grass, make paths, grow vegetables, and play with the cat.
I like to be busy and active.
