About Down's Syndrome : George

George Bowman has Down’s syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. He has severe learning difficulties and cannot speak. He needs full support with most things.

This piece was written by Tatty Bowman, George’s mum, for Awareness Week 2020 in which the theme is #WeDecide.

I can’t speak

But I can hear

I can’t reason

But I can understand

I can’t focus

But I know you are there.

Don’t ignore me

Because I am here

Speak to me

Because I want to know

Ask me

Because I have a choice.

And if I don’t understand your questions, I will show you

And because you love me more than life, you will lead me the right way.

Tatty also wrote a piece for World Down Syndrome Day last year which you can read here.
