Maternity
Down's Syndrome Association training for midwives and staff working in maternity services

We provide training to ensure that staff working in Maternity Services have up to date balanced knowledge about Down's syndrome as required by the clinical guidelines (NICE 2008).
The training will ensure that;
- Staff can give balanced and accurate information about Down's syn-drome to pregnant women prior to them deciding whether to undertake antenatal screening.
- Staff can deliver support and information about screening pathways and diagnostic testing to women with a screen positive result , this will include up to date, impartial information about Down's syndrome.
- Staff will recognise the need for pregnant women to be given adequate time to make difficult decisions about further screening.
- Staff will be confident in delivering information about the diagnosis of Down's syndrome either prenatally or after birth.
This is an interactive day involving parents and a young person with Down's syndrome, to share their experience and give an up to date account of living with Down's syndrome in 2011.
We are currently able to offer this training free of charge thanks to Danone Baby Nutrition.
