Support & practice for young people in secondary education (11 to 16 years)
Workshop on how to support learning and development in the secondary years. There will be a focus on the learning strengths that are specific to young people with Down's syndrome with an emphasis on individual differences, as well as advice and practical strategies to support learning. Sessions include: understanding the learning profile and accessing the curriculum, language and communication skills, literacy and numeracy, and supporting social development and behaviour. Workshop with information on how to support infant development through interaction and play, with a focus on meeting individual needs. Tell it Right, Start it Right
RCM accredited training for staff working in maternity services. This interactive study day will ensure that staff gain accurate, balanced and up to date information about Down's syndrome and living with Down's syndrome. It will enable staff to offer the best support to expectant parents, from the very beginning of the screening process, and to new parents. Delegates will hear about personal experiences from parents of a child with Down's syndrome and/or a young person with Down's syndrome. Ageing and Dementia
Study day with information about what Down's syndrome is and what specific learning strengths and weaknesses can be associated with having Down's syndrome. Learn about the link between Down's syndrome and dementia, how to recognize the stages of dementia and developing strategies to support individuals who have been diagnosed with dementia.
