CLOTHES RECYCLING SCAM UP AND RUNNING AGAIN

  • Wednesday, 11 August 2010 00:00

If you receive this flyer please throw it away.  It is a CHARITY SCAM and therefore FRAUD.

The Down's Syndrome Association (DSA) DOES NOT currently raise funds by recycling clothes via a third party.

uktextilescamflyersmallwebWe have been contacted by a number of our supporters and members who have received clothes recycling bags and flyers. The flyer uses the DSA's logo and web address, and quotes our charity number so to all intents and purposes looks official.

It states that the DSA is 'working with textile recycler 'UK Textiles Ltd' to raise funds to create a brighter future of children with Down's syndrome across the UK."

The DSA has absolutely nothing to do with this initiative.

We can confirm that these flyers are from a company called UK TEXTILE ENTERPRISE LTD.

We urge you NOT to leave any articles of clothing for this company if you or anyone you know receives a bag and flyer.

Please DO NOT confront the people making the collections as they may be dangerous. However - if you do see a number plate of a collection vehicle and are able discreetly to take the number down, we would appreciate a phone call. If you could also make a call to your local trading standards agency, this will increase the chance of them taking this case more seriously and action being taken.
