DSActive Football - Fulham vs QPR!!!
The Down's Syndrome Association's DSActive football programme was given a real boost on Monday evening at Fulham's training ground in Motspur Park.
The Fulham Badgers and QPR Tiger Cubs - teams made up of young people with Down's syndrome - joined together for their first ever joint training session.
The children trained with Fulham players Erik Nevland and Wayne Brown. Both teams showed off their skills with a series of drill runs, dribbling techniques and shooting practice.
There was high-fiving and shouts of encouragement as the goals spilled past the Premiership players.
Also in attendance were Sky and BBC London TV crews, with a piece on DSActive going out twice on BBC London News the next day.
The DSA's business development director, Paul Zanon, said: "It was a truly inspirational evening, seeing two top professional football clubs from west and south London join forces in the name of Down's syndrome."
The DSActive scheme has been running since 2006 with Fulham Football Club. Queen's Park Rangers (QPR) have recently joined the programme, and over the next few months it is hoped more clubs will come on board.
The Down's Syndrome Association is currently seeking funding to allow this unique programme to develop. We are hoping to roll out the initiative to further professional football clubs throughout the UK within five years.
