Run Forrest Run!
Over the past few months, many of our members and supporters have taken part in numerous races up and down the country running from 3 miles to a whopping 26, raising a fantastic amount of money for the DSA. Here are just three of the DSA running heroes from the year so far...
Ian Jones (left) victorious Birmingham Half Marathon finisher "Over 9000 people took part on Sunday the 26th October and it was a brilliant experience that I really hope to repeat in the not too distant future. The race itself was going well until the 11 mile mark where my little ginger legs decided enough was enough and they were not going to play anymore, which subsequently made the last 2 miles pretty hard going but eventually I sprinted over the line in a record breaking time of 2hrs 28mins finishing 5796!!! Not quite a podium finish and to be frank it was quite disheartening being overtaken by man in a gorilla costume, but knowing that we've raised over £600 and counting for Down's Syndrome Association was enough to keep my focus and determination in place until the finishing line."
Mark Lloyd (pictured right with 'bro' Andrew) "I signed up for the Cardiff Half Marathon a few months ago to shed a few pounds gained from the stress (aka love) of work, fine wines (supermarket wine offers) and rich food (chip shops).
Unfortunately the £27 I forked out to run the marathon wasn't enough to get me off the sofa and run that 13.1 Miles. That purpose was my brother ('bro') Andrew who has Down's syndrome and is an inspiration to me and my family.
I'm very proud to say that thanks to generous family, friends and work colleagues I raised £1473 in just a month which totally blew me away and indeed kept me training leading up to the event, definitely helping my mind and legs as I pushed through the last 3 miles of the race!
The whole event and knowing I was doing it for great cause is something I'll never forget. My brother was very proud of me that day, like I am every day of him".
Last but by no means least, Peter Northcott (left) who raised a fantastic £215 for running the Bristol, Half Marathon.
To all of you and to everyone else who has taken part in an event for us this year so far, a huge THANK YOU!
