Following heart problems two years ago Annette Smith of Chester defied the odds on Sunday 20th July and completed the gruelling Triathlon held at Manly Mere Lake.

Annette tested herself to the limit during the 750-metre swim, 10-mile cycle and three-mile run. Annette finished the course in 1 hour and 34 minutes and said: "I really enjoyed the challenge and felt fantastic afterwards."

Annette chose to raise money for two special charities close to her heart: the Down's Syndrome Association and the British Heart Foundation.

Annette had already raised £500 for the Down's Syndrome Association as part of the M&S Chester Staff Charity of the Year commitment. The 450 staff at M&S Chester are planning on raising £20,000 by the end of March 2009. Annette has also raised a further £800 for the British Heart Foundation.

A spokesperson from M&S Chester said: "Everyone at M&S Chester is very proud of Annette's fundraising efforts."

Annette added: "I am delighted to be able to show true heart and spirit by being part of the team and raising the vital funds needed to support people with Down's syndrome and the fantastic British Heart Foundation."
