QPR Golf Day for Down's Syndrome Tiger Cubs

  • Friday, 27 August 2010 10:57

QPR will be hosting a Golf Day on Wednesday 1st September at West Middlesex Golf Course, giving fans the opportunity to play against a host of First Team players and coaching staff.

The event costs just £75 per person and includes:

  • Breakfast on arrival
  • 18 holes of golf competing against QPR players and coaching staff
  • Three-course meal afterwards

All money raised from the event will support the QPR Youth Department and the Down's Syndrome Tiger Cubs.

The event will take a Ryder Cup-style format, with supporters competing directly against the QPR players and coaching staff.

R's Youth Development Assistant Manager Marc Bircham told www.qpr.co.uk:

"It's going to be a great event, and I am really looking forward to it.

A lot of the First Team are already talking about it. The purpose is to raise money for the Youth Department and the Tiger Cubs but don't be fooled - this will be competitive.

Trust me, professional sports people don't like to lose! It's going to be a good laugh, and it would be brilliant to have as many supporters involved as possible."

Payment for the Golf Day can only be made by cheque. Cheques should be made payable to 'QPR FC Youth Account' and sent to: QPR FC Youth Department, Loftus Road Stadium, London, W12 7PJ, together with your name and a contact telephone number.

DSA's Latest Funding Appeal - Tell it Right

  • Friday, 20 August 2010 07:17

Tell it Right, Start it Right

The manner in which parents are told their child has or may have Down's syndrome varies dramatically.

In response to this, the DSA has developed a comprehensive training programme aimed at midwives and their colleagues that has been accredited by the Royal College of Midwives. Co facilitated by parents and adults with Down's syndrome, it will provide professionals with advice and guidance on how to get it right during screening and at birth. With 25,000 midwives working in the NHS and a great number of interested medical professionals we plan to host 50 training sessions over the next 2 to 3 years throughout England and Wales. This knowledge would consequently be cascaded within maternity units and greatly enhance confidence and practice.

In order to make as big an impact as possible we would like to be able to offer this training free to all interested health professionals. Your donations towards the Tell it Right Start it Right Campaign have allowed us to embark on our journey, and as we are still trying to attain the balance of the £100,000 target, without your help, we simply would have not had the motivation or finances to do so. Thank you.

If you haven't done so already and wish to donate to the appeal, please click the donate now button below and be sure to write 'Tell it Right' in the Comments Box so we can ensure your money goes directly to the Appeal.

DSA's Latest Funding Appeal

  • Wednesday, 04 November 2009 14:30

The Down's Syndrome Association would like to thank you for helping us to become the successful organisation that we are today.  Most of the resources that we have created over the last 40 years have come about as a direct response to the conversations that we have had with people like you.  Next year will be our 40th birthday and we have seen, and been responsible for, many positive changes in the lives of people with Down's syndrome.  Our ability to listen and be flexible has enabled us to tackle the changing needs of people with Down's syndrome and their families. However, there is still so much to be done.

We received 21,000 calls last year from families, carers and professionals; many of which were highly complex in nature, lengthy and requiring advocacy from our Information Team.

The cost to cover this helpline is £200,000 and we really need your help to make it happen.  Please help us help you by donating now.

DSA Hit for 6!

  • Tuesday, 21 July 2009 15:18
As the rain tipped down on the Coronation Recreation Ground in Hersham, I have to admit that I was a little scared that the event wouldn't go ahead but as I walked through the gates and saw the myriad of canopies and shelters, I knew that nothing was going to stop Matt and his cricket buddies taking to the field.
