Danny Mardell Knockout Challenge

On Sunday 30th May the Down's Syndrome Association took over the world famous Stamford Bridge, home to double winning champions, Chelsea FC, for the fifth annual Danny Mardell Knockout Challenge.

24 teams from all over the country congregated on the pitch to hear the fantastic Samba ROC band kick the event off in style and as the crowds began to fill up the stands, the sixty group games began.

With four teams from each group going through to the knock out stages, we had to say goodbye to eight teams and to give everyone a little breather, we broke for lunch and welcomed the boys and girls from Walford to the pitch.

With Cheryl Ferguson (Heather Trott) taking over the mic and entertaining the crowds whilst playing the drums with Samba ROC, the cast and crew from Walford showed off their silky skills under the supervision of Chelsea legend, Mickey Ambrose.

Next to the field were our DSActive teams, the QPR Tiger Cubs, Charlton Upbeats and fresh from their trip to Hong Kong, the Fulham Badgers who entered the pitch to rapturous applause from their adoring fans!

As the group stages kicked off and the sun came out, things began to get more serious with thoughts of the final in the minds of many.  As numbers dwindled, we were left with our 2010 finalists, last years Champions, Galacticos and a brand new team for 2010, Fleet Spurs FC.

After a hard fought competition in the blazing afternoon sunshine, we had a winner - Fleet Spurs FC - CONGRATULATIONS!

We'd like to thank everyone who made the 2010 Danny Mardell Knockout Challenge another fantastic success but special thanks goes out to the Mardell family whose continued support, helps to ensure this event happens from year to year.
