Accessibility
DSA strives to provide a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology, ability or impairment. We are working to increase the accessibility of our website and to to adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines. If you have any comments please contact us and we'll do our best to help you.
Standards compliance
This site has been built using code that is compliant with W3C standards for XHTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in popular current browsers and using standards compliant XHTML/CSS code means any future browsers are also likely to display it correctly. Pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Wherever possible, CSS lists of text links are used to provide menus within the site, so that the navigation is as accessible as possible to alternative devices. However, while we attempt to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so under all circumstances.
The website has a "Skip to content" link placed near the top of the page's code, allowing users of alternative devices (such as screenreaders) to easily jump to the main content of a page, avoiding having to read through large amounts of repetitive navigation at the top of each page.
Text size
Please use the text stize controls at the top right of the page to increase the size of the website's text to make it easier to read. Alternatively, you can also use your browser's controls to change text size as required, or indeed to zoom the whole page if preferred.
Talklets
DSA has implemented a service called Talklets into this website. Talklets allows the website to talk by applying text-to-speech technology to any web text, and it reads it in a clear, life-like voice. Use the service at any time by clicking the button titled "Switch Talking Text Toolbar On" at the top right of any page. Then, using the button in the centre of the toolbar that appears at the foot of your page, switch the talking text service itself on. Use your mouse to point to headings, text and graphics on the screen to have them read out aloud to you.
PDF documents
The DSA website makes many documents available for you to download. Most of these are Adobe PDF documents, and you will need Adobe's Acrobat reader to open these. You can download it from the Adobe website.
Finding information within the site
You can find information anywhere within the DSA website by using the search box in the top right of the site. You can also look at the sitemap, which shows the structure of the entire site. We also show a "tag cloud" on most pages of the site, which allows you to easily list occurrences of the most popular terms within the section of the site that you're viewing.
