Niamh McGowan's 140km Cycle Ride

  • Tuesday, 05 October 2010 10:26

lap_the_lough_2010Niamh McGowan tells us why she cycled 140km for the Down's Syndrome Association:

"Despite a wet, windy and cold start to Sunday 29th August, my husband and I completed "lap the Lough" in just under 6 hours.  This is an organised cycle challenge, cycling one lap of Lough Neagh, a distance of 140km.

I decided to do the challenge and raise money for a charity at the same time.  My close friend's daughter has down's syndrome so it was easy for me to choose the charity - a very worthy cause.

Battling a head wind for the first 50miles or so meant that by our lunch stop at Shane's Castle my legs were never so glad to stop pedalling. Refreshed after our lunch, the sun came out and with the wind on our backs we completed the second half with more enjoyment.

A really well organised event and I recommend it.  Thanks to all who sponsored me."

Whilst we recognise there are many difficulties with the current Special Educational Needs Framework we believe that the proposed changes will actually make matters worse and that parents will find it even more difficult to secure adequate educational provision for their child(ren).
